The MTV Video Music Awards are right around the corner and this year’s show seems to be bright. For the prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Kanye West will be selected to helm the award. The 38-year-old rapper has been known for pushing boundaries and defining creativity and artistry in music and videos since he got in the game in 2004.
Kanye joins a long list of legends including: Madonna, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Justin Timberlake & Beyoncé. He will be next artist who is honored with the lifetime achievement award.
West has a long history with the VMAs, performing “Jesus Walks/All Falls Down/Through the Wire” in 2004 with the legendary Chaka Khan, “Gold Digger” with Jamie Foxx in 2005, “Stronger” and “Good Life” with T-Pain in 2007, premiering “Love Lockdown” in 2008, joining Jay Z for “Otis” in 2011 and returning in 2013 with “Blood on the Leaves.”
The awards will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, taking place this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
