We officially have our new Caped Crusader. Warner Bros. has ended weeks of speculation by confirming that Ben Affleck has just been cast as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming ‘Superman vs Batman’ movie in a press release. Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, said Affleck was perfect for the role.
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes,” said Silverman. “Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some.” Affleck will duke it out with Henry Cavill on screen to answer the age old question: “Who would win in a fight? Batman or Superman?” This wouldn’t be Affleck’s first venture into the superhero world. He previously played Daredevil back in 2003.
In a statement, director Zack Snyder expressed his excitement about the casting of Affleck, noting, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
The film is set for a July 17, 2015 release date.
